You've downloaded a free photo and now you want to add text to it. If you aren't a web designer who owns Photoshop, you may be wondering how to do that.
There are many online tools you can use to edit images. This post will concentrate on my favorite online image editor, Picnik. You can use Picnik for free or upgrade to Premium for more features, but for the purposes of adding text to an image, the free version works great. Here's how to make this happen. The red arrows on the screenshots below will show you what to do next.
Let's say we start with this image, and we want to add the words, "Click for more info!" to it.:

Step One: Upload Your Image

Step Two: Add The Text

Just click on the Create tab, choose Text from the menu, and then choose a font, type your text, and click the Add button.
Step Three: Adjust the Text

Once you've added your text, you can easily change the text color by choosing any color in the color selection area. You can move the text anywhere on the image by simply dragging and dropping the text. You can rotate the text by grabbing the top center handle (the little circle) and rotating left or right. Finally, you can grab any of the other handles (little circles along the text outline) to stretch or squeeze the text into different sizes.
Step Four: Save and Download Your New, Edited Image

When you're happy with the results, click the Save & Share tab, then the Save To Computer menu item, choose a name for your new image, and click the Save Photo button.
I hope that helps you add your own text to images. It's free and easy!

I was so happy to find your site. This is so awesome! I am a basic Word user. I email lots of photos and have been looking for a simple application whereby I could add text on to my photos. Then I discovered Picnik today. The uploading is fast and choices of fonts are great. Very user friendly. Thanks a bunch!!
